We see new event rental trends cycle in and out of the industry with every new year and every wave of engaged couples. In the rentals space, these trends play an instrumental role in influencing inventory choices for clients’ needs. This year’s themes and décor trends will dictate your supply, so it’s important to know the upcoming trends. You’ll need to prepare your event business accordingly. Here’s what the experts have to say about what to expect in the year ahead.
Loud and Proud Linens
“Linens are making headway in 2020. Layered tablescapes, styled in art deco, with a mixture of textures, patterns, and colors,” shares Goodshuffle Pro’s Vice President of Growth, Karen Gordon. “Some of the most popular styles will be velvet, tapestry-like fabric, and bold metallic prints. Many of these trends will be going along with the color block trend. 2020 is the year of bold statements and individuality, and linens will be no exception.”
Enhanced Lighting
“Video and projection mapping was a big trend in 2019, but I think we will see it gain popularity in 2020 as it becomes more accessible,” says Heather Rouffe of Atlas Event Rental. “Overall, I believe couples realize more and more the importance and significance lighting plays in to tie everything together and what it lends to the overall design of the event.”
Jennifer Charles of Something Fabulous adds: “In a retro callback, unique chandeliers made of rattan will be favored, along with bistro and string lights woven into unexpected patterns. Professional lighting will also be brought in to add patterns to the ceilings and walls of venues.”
One-of-a-Kind Elements
“Table designs are not just going to include some vases with flowers, candles, and menus, but textural elements. It is styling that tickles the senses and brings back memories,” explains Bronte Dwyer of Foreva Events. “Tables will include items that tell the story of the couple. It could be coral, coconuts, or crystals. We will also see an increase in the use of bright and bold colors, standout elements such as streamer hangings and balloon features. We will also see textures of velvet and corduroy. 2020 is a year to think outside of the box and create wedding designs that have never been done before.”
Blooms Galore
“In 2020, we are seeing more and more couples putting a greater emphasis on flowers and overall design,” predicts Tyler Speier of Tyler Speier Events. “Color palettes are more vibrant, installations are more impressive, and couples are thinking outside-the-box to convey their personalities through their event design. From hanging installations to flower walls, couples are wanting more and more flowers to bring their wedding visions to life!”
