If you go into this busy season with the same plan as last year, that’s the definition of insanity.
Hi y’all,
Fall is relentlessly filling up my Instagram feed, even though I’m desperately trying to hang onto summer for a few more weeks. Still, I can’t deny the big shift happening in our personal and professional lives as we start a new month. For many businesses, this also means a positive shift in your cash flows and an influx of inbound business you probably haven’t seen since last busy season.
It’s so tempting to just jump back in and start grinding.
But if you go into this busy season with the same plan as last busy season, expecting different results by the end of the year… isn’t that the definition of insanity?
Before you get hyper-focused on execution, I invite you to do an audit of what you need to learn about your business this busy season so you can be deliberate with how and what you’ll prioritize when time inevitably gets tight. Maybe it’s inventory usage, maybe it’s staffing, maybe it’s even your clients. We’ll deep dive into all of these possibilities in the next few weeks so you know exactly what you set out to measure, track, and learn.
Being intentional at the top of busy season puts the grind into focus. When you’re in the thick of things and wanting to pull your hair out because a driver left something at the warehouse for the umpteenth time, you can focus on the silver lining.
Plus, your team craves purpose beyond just delivering 100 chairs this weekend. If you can give them that focus, they’ll help you move your goals forward even faster.
As you’re settling into your new routine, leave space for you and your team to focus and make sure the activities you’re doing day-to-day are feeding your long-term plans and vision. And remember, you don’t need to try to solve all your problems at once. Strive to get 10%, 20% more clarity on your numbers from one busy season to the next.
Don’t go into this busy season without defining what success looks like beyond year-over-year growth. What do you intend to learn about your business this fall?
See you next Monday,
Mallory Mullen
