Smart event pros know the slow season isn’t time off — it’s time to level up.
Hi y’all,
I just got back from the MATRA Tent Show in Connecticut, where there was — perhaps surprisingly — a general feeling of optimism about how business has progressed for most folks this year.
Despite the fluctuations in revenue in recent years, event companies of all sizes are finding their stride, leaning into technology, and making smart, data-driven decisions — and many are looking forward to getting even better at that during their slower seasons.
For those heading into a seasonal slowdown, it’s natural to feel some anxiety about a potential dip in revenue, which can lead to a lot of what-ifs. But I believe it’s also a valuable opportunity to take a step back and ask: “How can I set myself up for success when things pick up again?”
After all, now is when all the pain points of your business are front of mind, so why not solve them while it’s easiest to find potential solutions?
Here are a few ways to make the most of this slow season:
🤝 Network with other event pros
Use this time to connect with others in the industry, either locally or in online communities. Building relationships with fellow vendors can open doors to referrals, preferred vendor status, or even sub-rental partnerships.
🖥️ Polish your online presence
Update your website, social media, and any online listings to ensure they reflect your current services. A refreshed digital presence can help attract clients during the slow season and increase inquiries down the road.
⚙️ Enhance your workflow
Review your tools and systems to ensure everything is working smoothly. Clean up inventory data, establish tracking methods, and create efficiencies that will save you time when things get busier.
If you already have software or tools in place, reach out to your customer service reps to ensure you’re making the most of the tools you already have access to before finding alternative solutions.
Remember, this season isn’t just a quiet spell. It’s a chance to set yourself up for success in the busy season, no matter your size. Trust me, business will pick back up again before you know it!
See you next Tuesday,
Mallory Mullen
