Stop filling your time with busy work. Your biggest goals are waiting.
Hi y’all,
We’re halfway through the year, and if we’re being honest, most of us are probably staring at our January goals wondering where the time went. If there’s still work to be done to crush your 2025 goals — don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of work left to do, too — let’s work together on making sure the rest of our year is prioritized to set us up for success.
The biggest mistake we make as event pros is falling into the “rock, pebbles, sand” trap. We all know this one: we fill our jars with sand (answering emails, tweaking our quote templates for the fifth time) and suddenly there’s no room for the rocks (the big initiatives that actually move the needle). Our major goals get pushed to “next season” indefinitely.
If you’re looking at your calendar realizing you’ve got to empty some sand from your jar to make moves for rocks and boulders to move in, it’s not too late to make changes in the second half of the year. In fact, if you’re in a slower period right now, that’s your secret weapon. While others let seasonal lulls turn into unproductive time, you can use this breathing room strategically.
Let’s stop kicking the can down the road. Let’s check in with our teams and ask: what would have made our lives easier in the first half of this year? That painful conversation about underperforming inventory? The website updates you’ve been avoiding? The new pricing structure you know you need?
The cycle of avoiding hard stuff because of “emotional labor” is real, but acknowledging it makes it easier to face and take that first step forward. 25% better is infinitely better than 0% better.
Don’t let seasonality derail your progress. Use slower periods for warehouse organization, website updates, and strategic planning. When busy season hits, you’ll already have systems in place to handle the chaos.
Your goals from January might need a refresh anyway. Maybe your original target was too ambitious, or market conditions shifted. That’s not failure — that’s adaptation. The most successful event pros I know treat their goals like a GPS: when they hit a roadblock, they don’t take it personally. They just recalibrate and find a new route.
The year isn’t over. Your best six months might be ahead of you!
See you next Monday,
Mallory Mullen
