When you effectively prioritize and make time for you, you’ll feel the difference.
Hi y’all,
Welcome back to Busy Season, your guide to the hot takes, pro tips, and real stories sweeping the events industry.
Based on last week’s poll, summer is the busiest season for most of you. So this week I thought I’d share some tips on how to achieve balance when things feel overwhelming.
Ah, the ebb and flow of events. It’s exciting, but it can also take a toll on you. To balance it out, you need something constant in your life. Something that will keep you grounded during the highs and lifts you up in the lows.
Even in my busiest times, I try to build at least one non-negotiable into my day. For me, that’s unplugging from technology for at least 30 minutes daily to move my body, enjoy nice weather, or have dinner by myself at a restaurant. For other folks, that may be FaceTiming with a loved one, meditating, or doing a daily devotional. Whatever it is, it should be something that totally disconnects you from work.
And when it’s time to get back to it, I recommend making peace with the fact that your to-do list is never going to be “done.” So it’s important to make smart decisions about what gets deprioritized. The Eisenhower Decision Matrix helps me do just that:
Now, some of you may see ‘delegate’ and think “I don’t have anyone to delegate this to!” Think again — is there technology that can assist you? Can you hire someone to do it? Heck, can you outsource it to ChatGPT?
I’ll leave you with this final word of wisdom: If you’re appropriately prioritizing and still underwater, it likely means that you’re succeeding — and to reach the next milestone, you can afford to hire help.
So when everything feels overwhelming, take a moment to practice gratitude, but then look at your budget and get to hiring!
See you next Tuesday,
Mallory Mullen
